Buying Spree
Been on a buying spree lately. Buying stocks, buying camera, buying bookshelves..
Stocks wise, the stock market has been pretty good lately. Looks like the bubble is gonna sustain for a while more. Just gotta be more nimble I suppose. Recently, I bought my 2nd warrant.
I usually don't play with warrants cause of the added risk of market maker, and also because I'm not too familiar with the instrument. For those who are not sure what warrants are, basically they are a form to leverage your money, so that when you win, you can win more. Likewise, when you lose, you can lose more. Maybe if there are people interested, drop me a comment
So the other day, I had this really big instinct to buy the HSI (Hang Seng Index) call warrant. One because it dropped like crazy, two because I've been observing it for about a week or 2, and it seemed to always rebound off the support. So i went in for the kill! Lucky I killed it, and it didn't kill me.
And on with the buying spree, I bought a new camera! Previously, I was using a nikon D70 dSLR. One of the main reasons why I chose it was because of the really nice images it can produce. Face it, a consumer digicam can never produce similar pictures to a dSLR. Another was because I was doing freelance photography and usually event shoots(such as outdoor/indoor events and weddings) and studio shoots, you have to use a dSLR. No questions asked.
However, I sort of lost the interest for it. So I stopped doing assignments, even stopped taking photos for leisure. And after time, my other businesses actually overtook freelance photography by a large margin. More recently, I borrowed my sister's small digicam for some trips overseas, and learnt to appreciate the small size and convenience of it all. So, to cut the story short, I sold my nikon D70 dSLR, and bought a Fuji F31fd.

To those people who want to buy a new camera, the Fuji F31fd is THE only option. It has amazing night shots, due to its amazing photo sensors, and the battery life is crazily long. The bad point however, is that its pretty bulky compared to those teeny weeny slim credit card cams, but its really not that big and I feel its quite a good size.
Currently theres a promotion running in most camera shops around Singapore. Its going for $499 with 1 2gig XD card(or 2 x 1gig XD card), mini tripod, screen protector, leather case, and extra battery. Very good deal guys! You gotta get it.
Then, just today, I had this sudden urge to go to ikea. Its really my first visit to their tampines main branch and I tell you, it was huge! The amazing thing however, was that the layout was exactly the same as the alexander road one!. That is, the entrance is 1 floor above the exit. When you enter, you go through the same themes, starting with bedrooms, then living rooms, then kitchen, etc etc. Then you reach the cafe, which is right beside the staircase to the lower levels, then you have the accessories section, lighting, etc. Exactly the same. Is it the same for ikea all over the world? Its really intriguing, cause it means consumers just have to go into any ikea, and they would know where to find the stuff! Interesting.
Anyway, I had to get a bookshelf for the longest time and since I managed to get my butt out to ikea, I decided to buy it. After choosing the one that I wanted, (which was the billy 2 meter high model), and going to the unassembled section to get it, problem struck.
The box was CRAZILY BIG! Well, I mean its a 2 meter high bookshelf, how small can it be? But the point was that, the way it was laid out, it just looked huge. After reading the label, I realised it was also 38kg. Man, thats gonna be a pain to get home.
Lucky for me, I managed to flag a cab rather fast, and got home pretty quickly. The only problem was lugging it around, and even in that 3-5 minutes, it was bad. Very bad.
So after 1 hour, the bookshelf went from

to this

Now, time to populate it with all my books.
More buying sprees to come?
