Dopod 838 Pro, my new handphone!
I bought a new handphone! Okay okay, its not 'new' new, I got it 2nd hand with 6 months warranty left. (Not to be too specific with the price, I got it around $650 to 720)
Before getting it, I was using the Dopod 818 Pro for 1.5 years. So I decided it was time for a change. So I actually went out to do massive amount of research on it, mainly from the things I didn't like about the 818 pro, and on the newer features not found on my 818 Pro.
One of the key things was, writing became hell of a hassle on my 818 Pro. When I first got it, it was really a novel thing. Pretty fun to write out sms, appointments, tasks, etc using the stylus instead of the normal keypad T9 kind of thing. After a while, it became really irritating. Mainly because writing a 160 character sms was rather stressful on the muscles (hey! I use too much strength to grip the stylus 
), and also because the screen protector became damaged after a while. I had actually gone through 2 screen protectors in that time span.
So when I went out to look for a new phone, I had considered either going back to either a normal handphone with a keypad, or a PDA phone with a qwerty keyboard. The other issue was, I use my 818 Pro for my scheduling a lot, and as such, that kind of limited my choices of phone. In the end, I narrowed it down to 3 phones. The Dopod C500(Also known as HTC Vox), the Dopod 838 Pro(Also known as the HTC Hermes), and the Dopod 900(Also known as the HTC Universal).
For the Dopod 900, its actually a pretty fat PDA phone that looks like a micro laptop thing-a-ma-jig. Another thing is that its only available 2nd hand in Singapore. Reason being is that it launched 1+ years ago at S$1800. So searching through the 2nd hand market. The going price was around $500 to around $650.
For the Dopod 838 Pro, its not exactly a new phone, but not really an old phone too. Still available 1st hand at $1200, and going through the 2nd hand market, its around $650 to $750, depending on the number of months used. This phone is more like a standard PDA phone, but fatter, and comes with a side slide out keyboard. Pretty sweet.
The Dopod C500 is a very new phone. Only available 1st hand at $700 odd. The interesting thing was, this is a smart phone instead of a PDA phone. Basically, this means that the screen is not a touchscreen. The other interesting thing was that it comes with a number pad, as well as a slide out keyboard.
So basically, I wanted to get a phone around $500-700 budget, that has a keypad. At first, I made some offers for the Dopod 900. But after a while of consideration, I decided not to get it due to the relatively large size, and its older age. For those people who don't mind the larger size, and the idea of holding a brick to your head, I think the Dopod 900 is a pretty good catch nowadays at the 2nd hand prices.
In the end, the race came down to just the newer sleeker C500, and the older fatter brother 838Pro.
Fortunately, a few deals suddenly popped up in forums all over. In just that 5 preceding days alone, I saw almost 7 to 8 pieces of the 838Pro available for sale. Of course, all at different price levels, amount of warranty left, and package thrown in. (Law of Attraction at work again?) When I saw one with 6 months warranty, and having a pretty good condition, that sealed the deal.
Of course, another reason is that I did not manage to find the C500 at all! While its on advertisements in the local newspapers and webpages, I never managed to try out one personally. So I guess, sometimes things are fated.
Right now, my pretty little 838Pro has been flashed up to Windows Mobile 6, and working fine. I've been hearing some issues with the Windows Live that's meant to replace the Windows Messenger. Lets hope it won't cause big issues when I have to use it.

Dopod 838 Pro is a very good phone. I bought it for testing our antitheft software and when the time to sell it off, I couldnt part with it. I love the sturdy feel and the keyboard, really cool.
