Getting paid without people clicking your ads? By using CPM ads! (Advertlets and Nuffnang)

One of the most common advertisements you see on websites belong to the CPC, or cost per click, category. Things like google adsense, bidvertiser, yahoo publisher network, etc. The most popular being google adsense, because of their relevant ads, as well as the relatively high payout per click. (Read more from our review of google adsense!)

The next type of advertisements are known as the CPM category. CPM stands for cost per thousand impressions. What this basically mean is that for every thousand views of the ads, they pay you a certain sum of money. In fact, before google adsense came along, CPM advertisements were the predominant form of advertisements online, mainly because there was little or no tracking ability to monitor the number of clicks on an advertisement. (Again, remember google is the god of internet)

Back then, in order to qualify for entry into a CPM ad network requires a website to have a minimum number of unique visitors per day, or a minimum number of page views. (Something like 100,000 to 500,000 pageviews per month!) Its just like advertising on TV. Do you want to put out ads on a nation wide TV station, or a small town TV station?

In the recent years and months, the tools for individuals to publish their own websites became easily available and it created a large boom in small content sites. Not wanting to miss out on the action, new advertising networks decide to look at the sites with low pageviews and see how they can capitalise on that.

Enter advertlets and nuffnang!

Both of these networks are primarily CPM ad networks with a Singapore/Malaysia focus. Besides that, they were both created at around the same time period and they do not have a high minimum pageview limitation. As such, they have a very strong appeal to the large number of bloggers in this region.

As you can see from the ads I have on my site, I currently use advertlets only. It's not because nuffnang is no good, but I personally do not believe in spamming my page with ads. (Thats why you only see a teeny little advertlets ad at the side) Another reason is that I have heard instances that nuffnang sometimes have lousy ad fills. What this means is that you have the advertisement space allocated to nuffnang, but nuffnang doesn't provide you with ads. And since it is a CPM ad, when there is no ads, there is no views/impresion. When there is no views, there is no money for you.

It is because of that, and other small criterias, I have decided to go with advertlets for now.

Being a typical CPM ad network, some of the ads won't be fully relevant to your webpage. In a conventional sense, it is really an advertisement, just like those you see on TV. Fortunately, they do have a regional focus. Which means in the worst case scenarios, you won't get ads trying to sell you a house in USA.

I will do a earnings report summary at the beginning of next month. Only then will I be able to give the estimated earnings from advertlets. Stay tuned!

PS: There are many other CPM networks with a global focus like feedburner ad networks, perhaps more on that next time.

The numbers are increasing on the advertlets page, but they haven't paid yet. I did a sponsored review for them which was suppose to pay, but that wasn't credited.

At this point, I'm just keeping the ads on for fun first. Been a bit busy with other stuff (V-Diet) as you can see..

Otherwise, google adsense is doing well!
