For anybody who is interested in making money from the internet, the most famous words must be 'Google Adsense'. (Besides 'Search Engine Optimisation' of course, but I personally think that is overhyped.)

So what does google adsense actually mean for  you? Traditionally, advertisements are sold on a private affair basis, where you have websites that are generating 100,000 to 500,000 pageviews per month, and banner pricing comes in the thousands (of dollars).

 What google did was to adapt its search engine skills, to look at your webpage, and then display text advertisements that is supposedly relevant to your content. Freaky? Cool? Scary? No matter, what you've gotta admit, google owns the internet! *haha*

And I digress.

Adsense is primarily a text advertisement agent, though, they have been slowly moving into the image advertisement market. Adsense is also a CPC (Cost per click) advertisement provider. What this simply means is that you only get paid when people click on the advertisment itself.

As a comparison, there are CPM (Cost per thousand impressions) advertisements and fixed monthly cost advertisments.

For google adsense, the cost per click can actually vary quite significantly, from 3cents per click up to 60cents per click (or maybe higher). Without going into too much details, the fastest and surest way to get a high cost per click is to create sites that cause relevant contextual ads to be displayed. And of course, the way to that is to produce high quality content, preferably of a niche market, and that it appeals to trigger happy clickers.
