Lets just jump to the numbers first.

Adsense : US$14.04 (or S$19.656 if using a 1.40 conversion)
Advertlets:     S$7.61

Generally, there hasn't been a change in the adsense numbers, but the advertlets numbers increased. However, if you actually looked at the details, the advertlets numbers actually dropped on a CPM basis. Probably will have to monitor to see how that goes.

Back on 23rd Jan, I decided to do a case study on monetising websites as a form of consistent income. Thus, I redid my site theme, played around with ad placements, redefined the focus of the site, and this is what you get!

For this experiment, I would be combining the results of this site, Fergus Tan dot Net as well as another stock trading site I created at around the same time.

Imagine this, a person goes to  your website, read your post and saw a link to a book he likes. He clicks on that link and it goes to amazon. However, he is a compulsive shopper. Once at amazon, he shops around, decides to ge the book, as well as an iphone, a digital camera and a washing machine. Costing a total of at least US$1500

And amazon gives  you a cut of anywhere from 0.25% to 4% of that.

Now imagine that repeated 100 times a week. That, is affiliate marketing.

I signed up for PPP! For those who don't know what that is, it stands for PayPerPost, a sponsored review network available online.(PPP: Get paid to blog)

Though they both cost nothing to sign up, and they even have duplicate opportunities between them, the one of largest difference is the way that advertisers and publishers interact.

Besides earning money through advertisements such as google adsense or advertlets, there are other ways to make money from your blogs. There's still affiliate marketing as well as sponsored reviews.

Sponsored reviews are exactly that: Sponsored (meaning someone pays for them) reviews (which means... er.. reviews). And that can work in 2 ways for you.

One of the most common advertisements you see on websites belong to the CPC, or cost per click, category. Things like google adsense, bidvertiser, yahoo publisher network, etc. The most popular being google adsense, because of their relevant ads, as well as the relatively high payout per click. For anybody who is interested in making money from the internet, the most famous words must be 'Google Adsense'. (Besides 'Search Engine Optimisation' of course, but I personally think that is overhyped.)

So what does google adsense actually mean for  you? Traditionally, advertisements are sold on a private affair basis, where you have websites that are generating 100,000 to 500,000 pageviews per month, and banner pricing comes in the thousands (of dollars).
